We run the program in a unique manner leveraging online community and portfolios to make tracking co-curricular work meaningful and easy and I'd be happy to chat about the above issues, anytime, with any folks on this thread:

Hi Mark et al.,

I'm Gabe Flacks, Champlain College Humanities Department Chair and Coordinator of the Champlain Millennium Certificates. These are multi-year Experiential Learning certificates earned by participants who achieve 100 "points" across their years at the college. It requires at least 20% of these points to come from volunteer/experiential work, and others can come from independent learning, and intersections with classes as each student follows their own path. It requires a very interesting management and approach and I'm proud of how it is now at full capacity:

I'm also a founder of Linkr, a platform which came out of my challenges in implementing virtual exchange and experiential learning at the college designing ways to support and grow these initiatives.

I'd be happ to meet up anytime next week via zoom to discuss programs at other institutions, just to learn and exchange best practices, ideas etc.

Please, reach out anytime, Mark or anyone who is interested!

Hey Mark,

I run an Experiential Learning Internship Program at UGA. Most of the students in my program participate in internships over the summer (previously, students could also enroll during the Fall and Spring semesters). The program is technically a "non-credit activity," because it does not count for any academic credit; yet the program still satisfies the university's Experiential Learning graduation requirement. We track progress with 6 online reflection module that I oversee directly. I am happy to connect and share more information if you are interested. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] and we can setup a Teams meeting!

All the best,
Casey

We have a 0-credit course that our office facilitates for students receiving F.U.S.E. (Funding for Unpaid and Underfunded Student Experiences) awards. We require 5 reflection videos through Big Interview, a self-evaluation and supervisor evaluation at the end of the experience, thank you notes to donors and participation in an Internship & Applied Learning Showcase.

Hi Mark,
I previously taught a 1 non-academic credit internship course for a few years. We created it this way so that our International students could take it while they worked internships over the summer, and they wouldn't have to pay for a credit. I've attached the syllabus. Happy to chat, if you'd like. [email protected].
Best,
Arline

Mark - We may be doing something similar and I'm happy to jump on a call and share. We are aligning career readiness competencies to co-curricular experiential learning through student employment. This is not for credit as they are being monetarily compensated for their work. This is a work in progress and I plan to pilot it this fall paired with a supervisor training series for internship supervisors. :)

In my role in the DePaul Career Center, I also serve as the department chair for our academic unit that offers career development courses and an Experiential Learning designated internship course (the only university-wide undergraduate internship course at DePaul). I've recently launched a zero-credit internship course to support students whose internships don't align with DePaul's academic calendar and who are required to be enrolled in a course synchronous to the experience (whether due to visa status or required by the employer), as well as students in other unique situations. While it's zero-credit, I still want the students to be reflecting/engaging with their experience and have access to regular support. I haven't gotten a clear minimum expectation for a zero-credit undergraduate course, and the other zero-credit internship courses are graduate-level, so I'm not sure what I should require or ask of students enrolled in my zero-credit course. Right now, I'm thinking 1-2 check-in meetings depending on the duration of enrollment but not sure what else if anything.

I would love to hear what other folks have done in zero-credit internship / experiential learning courses or what requirements/expectations you have in place. Thanks!
