I recently had an incident where a student discovered a potential arrest of his project sponsor for an assault crime. There's no evidence online that the suspect is indeed the project sponsor, not is there any indicator that the person who was arrested was subsequently convicted.
It raised a question about whether we need to do criminal background checks for employers before placement. It seems overly complicated given it's not usually clear up front which employees the student will be in contact with at the sponsor organization. Does anyone have experience with this type of issue? I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether any of your institutions have a formal policy that would address this.
Thanks,
